Summer food and drinks

Staying cool in summer can be a challenge – especially if you don’t have access to a pool. These tips will help you stay hydrated and feeling refreshed.

Eat foods that are cool and light
Fruits like strawberries, apples, pears and plums are great snacks that will help keep you refreshed and hydrated.

Go traditional
Ancient Chinese medicine identifies vegetables like summer squash, cauliflower, corn and broccoli as traditional cooling foods.

Minty-fresh water
Add a burst of cool flavour to your favourite beverages, or summer salads, by adding peppermint leaves.

Drink water
Don’t forget to replace fluids frequently during activity in the sun. Your best source of fluid is water. Be sure to drink plenty before, during and after any type of activity, especially in the heat.

Hydrate with food too
Did you know that fruits and vegetables are great sources of fluid? Drinking water isn’t the only way to stay hydrated this summer.

Cool off with this herb
Add the fresh taste of cilantro to your next salad. It’s not only refreshing, but also contains Vitamin A, C and K.

Freeze your snacks
Frozen grapes or blueberries are a fantastic summertime treat. These fruits are full of nutrients and will beat the heat when enjoyed icy.
