Margherita Whole Grain Pizza
Pizza Sauce
- 1 cup no added salt diced tomatoes
- 1/4 teaspoon peeled and finely chopped fresh garlic cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon finely chopped fresh oregano or 1 pinch dried oregano leaves
- 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 small basil leaf, thinly sliced or 1 pinch dried basil leaves
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
Margherita Whole Grain Pizza
- 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
- 1-16-inch whole grain thin pizza crust
- 4 to 5 thinly sliced plum tomatoes
- 1 Tablespoon chopped Italian parsley
- 3 ounces thinly sliced fresh mozzarella
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 to 3 basil leaves, thinly sliced
To Prepare Pizza Sauce:
- 1. In a blender or food processor, pulse tomatoes lightly to crush. Transfer to a bowl.
- 2. Combine all ingredients until well-blended. Cover, and place in the refrigerator until ready to use.
To Prepare Margherita Whole Grain Pizza:
- 1. In a small bowl, combine oregano, thyme, granulated garlic, and onion powder.
- 2. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit or heat recommended by the manufacturer's directions.
- 3. Evenly spread 1 cup pizza sauce to ¼-inch from the edge of each crust.
- 4. Evenly place tomato slices in a circular format to cover the sauce.
- 5. In order, evenly top with:
- 1 Tablespoon chopped parsley
- 3 ounces sliced mozzarella
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese.
NOTE: Do not pile ingredients in the center but concentrate on spreading towards outside edges. - 6. Spray the edges of the pizza crust with cooking oil spray. Evenly sprinkle spice mix around the edges of the dough.
- 7. Place the pizza in the preheated oven. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- 8. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with 1/8 teaspoon pepper and sliced basil.
- 9. Cut into 8 even slices. Enjoy immediately!
